Genomines
Genomines is developing a biological approach to the extraction of critical metals. The company grows plants able to extract nickel from low-grade soils in order to produce nickel intended in particular for battery supply chains.

What Genomines does
The technology
Genomines grows genetically improved hyperaccumulator plants, able to absorb and concentrate the nickel contained in low-grade soils. The harvested biomass is then processed to produce battery-grade nickel.
According to the company, its platform has more than doubled nickel yields and biomass productivity compared with its starting point.
Why it matters
A conventional nickel deposit takes twelve to seventeen years before it enters production. Genomines announces deployment in one to two years, on soils that the mining industry considers too poor to exploit.
The company is preparing pilot projects in South Africa and works with industrial players such as Hyundai Motor Group and Jaguar Land Rover.

The holding
AlphaTech Investment Group, the investment company of the group to which Alpha Agriculture Technologies belongs, is among the investors in the 45 million dollar Series A announced in September 2025, alongside Engine Ventures and Forbion BioEconomy, which led the round.
What brought us together
Genomines applies to mining the logic that is ours on plant value chains: start from the plant's genetics, industrialise a crop and create a value chain where none existed. It is the same technical foundation as our work in plant biotechnology and in AI and data.
